“Design is not for philosophy; it’s for life.”
Aarti Aggarwal leads the creative design team at KNOCK ON WOOD (KNW), erstwhile known as the House of Design. The seeds of design were sown in Aarti long before she came into the realm of institutionalized furniture design. Since building furniture was her father’s hobby, there was always a carpenter in their backyard; thus she was initiated to this craft early in life. “The thrill of seeing a log change shape motivated me. Design for me is a way of life; you don’t choose to design, it just needs to be done,” says Aarti.
Aarti has studied domestic design from University of Arts, London and specialized in Chair design from Danish Skole of Design, Copenhagen. Her designs sit at the confluence of an Indian sensibility and a specialized western training. Solid on concept and driven by passion, she is among the first in India to cater to clients ranging from global brands in hospitality, residential developments to high net worth individuals.
Her strong design sensibility articulates her international exposure and innate love for Indian Art & culture. It is her dedication, hard work, skill and sheer creativity that has enabled her to set up a studio that speaks of the intricacy and art of fine craftsmanship. She exudes positivity and her love for her craft and her workmen is unmatched.
“The biggest accomplishment for any designer is the trust that the clients place in them. We may have grown in scale but we remain a ‘peoples’ company’ at heart. A team that is committed to quality and responsible design. You may find it classic or contemporary, sometimes bold, sometimes eccentric, sometimes daring, but always, always genuine and honest. At least that is my hope, Knock on Wood.”
