We recently were at Off The Hook at Rajouri garden New Delhi. This is a new restaurant being presented By Dessee Dakshin.. The décor is pretty inviting in aqua blue tone with chandeliers and stylish candle stands. Located on the third floor the ambiance is quite simplistic but stylish and create a coastal feel through decorations. The staff here leaves no stone unturned when it come to please and serve the guest with a smile.
The menu primarily features Manglorean cuisine which is authentic home recipes. The best thing was that they had a lot of vegetarian options for a veggie like me. And smart enough to curate a veggie dish by replacing the non-veggie item form a regular non-vegetarian material and vice versa to make the guest happy and content.
I had a chance of meeting Mr. Dhanush Alva and his Father Kishan Alva, Director of the newly opened wing Off The to Hook during our recent visit for TRAIL MANGLORE FOOD FESTIVAL to this coastal food joint. And found him quite optimistic about his venture and here is what he said, ‘I want each one of my guests to enjoy authentic homemade Manglorean recipes.’
Let’s talk about Food:
Coming to the food now; we tasted a few dishes from the exhaustive menu that they have.. We started with Sol Curry and it was Hot so to adjust our taste buds they promptly served the milder version of the same. We also tried Water melon Mojito which was very refreshing.
We then tried Ghee Roasted Paneer, Butter and garlic Mushroom both were good. Particularly Ghee roasted Paneer, I loved the flavours that Ghee provided to the Dish and also the spiciness.
Next was Channa Mangalorian Style I just loved this boiled White Channa preparation for it’s simplicity and flavours of curry Patta and fresh Coconut.
For the mains we were served the Rice ball with Drumstick Sukka . Again very simple but flavoursome.Rice ball with Curry patta was quite amazing.
Next was Idiappam served with Vegetable Curry.I love the texture of Iddiappam and spiciness of curry complimenting each other.
I also liked Neer Dosa for it lightness and softness.though my favorite mains was Appam served with Veg Stew.
Veg stew at Off The Hook was one of the best stew I have Had till date –must try.Appam too was light and fluffy and It was so delicious that I called for second serving.
I was full by this time but could not resist desserts. So I just tried a spoonful, Moong Daal Payasam and Naivedyam and was impressed with the taste.
The best part of a meal at Off the HOOK was the purity of the flavours and no experimentation with authentic recipes, in this time of over experimentation that most of the other restaurant are doing.
Most of the dishes were like master art pieces. We found Off The Hook to be a great place for Manglorian food and loved the veggie combinations that chef has turned out.
A re-visit is a must.
